No Pictures Necessary

Tonight in the shop was all about desk work. I worked on estimates for a few projects. Not much to report, hopefully soon the wood hits the tools and we see some progress!!!

Shotgun Sighted In, and Many New Projects.

Now that Ruth has her new shotgun, and the early doe only season starts next weekend...that only means one thing...we had to sight it in this weekend. She did an awesome job, and it was the fastest sight in I have ever been a party of. She is the steadiest, most consistent shooter I have seen.

Here she is in my stand...she layed down for the best accuracy.

Here she is all done in the stand with her gun "dead-on".

Gotta try the free-hand shot, most like you would take while hunting.

Here is a picture of the target. Her sight in was the bottom left circle, as you can see the shots started low and right, and as she adjusted her scope moved left and up as needed. The upper left circle were her last two shots to confirm the accuracy. That is a 4 inch circle shot at just over 100 yards...very nice grouping. The bottom right circle were the only two shots taken from my gun at the same distance, once again right on, telling me my scope never moved since last year(a very good thing.) The other three holes in the upper right are from my Dads gun, who has a very different type of sight, so that is why the shots are a little more sporadic, that one still needs to be tweaked a little.

As you may or may not have noticed....there was no door attached to my stand....it was laying in the weeds, and has to be re-attached before the season starts. It was blown off by the wind.

Also this weekend I also acquired a great amount of work for the shop. I have those cabinet doors for Matt and Kim, the gun cabinet for my brother, end tables for my brother, and a very nice built in bookshelf/reading area for Greg and Kim. Great news for Stobb Custom Woodworking. I look forward to all of these projects, and hope to get them all done as soon as possible.

As usual I will post pictures of each project as it progresses.

New Gun and another box.

Just over a month ago Ruth passed hunters safety class, and is getting ready to deer hunt this year. This all means that we had to get Ruth her first gun. Tonight we picked it up from Holiday, a brand new Mossberg with all the goodies strapped to it for deer hunting. We also got her first license, now she is all set to hunt next weekend for the early earn a buck season.

Here is her new pride and Joy

I am not sure who is happier, me or her! I am very proud that she is hunting this year.

After all of that fun, I also made a quick shadow box that did not need to be stained. Was a quick glue-up job.

Tomorrow night I start some cabinet doors for a friend.

Free Lumber Gloat, and a Place to Store It.

Ruths parents stopped by yesterday with a gift from the lumber gods. Ruths dad works for Spencer Schools, where he came across some wood the shop was getting rid of. He asked if I could use it, and of course I said yes!! All lumber is good lumber, but free is the absolute best kind.

I scored these sweet 10 foot long pieces of oak, these will work well for stile and rail sets, and for raised panel door frames.

Here is a sweet pile of pine boards. These are knotty pine, which is not real good for furniture and things. It is great for making things in the shop, such as shelves and drawers. Millions of uses for this wood, what a find! They are all super wide, and there is even one 2"thick piece in there.

With all of the new lumber, and even the stack I already had, I decided to finally make the lumber rack I have needed for so long. As some of you may or may not know, there is a balcony above the shop, which is accesible from the garage. A perfect place to store lumber. It is not fancy, but it is super strong, and super functional.

Here is the lumber in the new rack. Someday soon, I am sure it will be full, and I will have to expand, but that is a great problem to have.

Live from Lakewood

My mom and I are spending a Mother-Son weekend together up north, we borrowed some ATV's and are riding the trails all weekend. What a blast, today is our first day, and we have around 75 miles in aleady. More riding tonight, and all day tomorrow.

Here is where I am typing from, and where we are staying tonight. The Best Western Lakewood Lodge.

Here are the "bikes" unloaded and ready to go.

This picture was taken only a half hour ago, just before we got back to the hotel. We went to a place in Gillet, where they are having an ATV rally/fundraiser tonight. We are going back later with the truck, because we bought some raffle tickets, and will enjoy some great food. So, I will type back at you later, hopefully we win something nice.

Long, Fun Weekend.

This weekend was a very busy weekend. It all started Friday night by building this bed frame for our nephew David. He had his fourth birthday this weekend, and this was our gift to him. We started the bed Friday after work, and finished the construction at about midnight. We did not head to bed, instead we stayed up until 2 a.m. to see my parents off to Canada. They headed up Saturday morning for a week of walleye fishing.

Here is a picture of the simple bed frame. We finished it Saturday morning with some Red Mahogany stain, and a coat of polyurethane. David should get many years of use out of this frame.

Saturday evening we headed to Grafton for a housewarming party. My cousin Greg and his soon to be wife Kim bought a beautiful house, and they had a great get together to show it off. We stayed there until about 10:30, after a few beers, and some time around the fire. I also gave some money away as I lost in "31" and dice. Oh well, great food and company made it a great evening.

Sunday was busy as well, our journeys took us to Rozellville, and Marshfield. Rozellville was the setting for Davids birthday party, and where we delivered the new bed. After the party we headed to Marshfield to visit with Ruth's grandpa and grandma Dittner. We had not seen them in quite a while, and it was nice to talk with them. After about an hour we were back on our way to Ripon.

Good and bad sports weekend by the way....Green Bay Good, Brewers Bad-by losing all four to the Phillies, in-turn giving up our four game lead in the wild card. Oh well!! There are still 12 games left to re-gain the lead, and head to the postseason for the first time since 1982.

I finally am done for now with the shadowboxes and things, so I am hoping to get a start on that long ago mentioned gun cabinet. Lets see how I do today, check back later to see if I found the time.

Nothing New

Not much to talk about tonight. I finished one shadow box, and started another. No pictures necessary, as you know what they look like.

Another 5-4 loss to the Reds tonight in extra innings..damn it!

I did sell my old jointer tonight on craigslist, so I deliver that to the guy in Oshkosh tomorrow. Nice to get rid of an old tool for some cash, as I no longer needed it.
